Sundays with Chuck
This three-hour tour with ‘Coach,’ as he is often called, will focus on the Lotz family, the house, the Battle of Franklin and the entire 1864 campaign plus many of Chuck’s antidotes, life lessons and personal stories.
Chuck Byrn, a beloved high school coach, educator and former tour guide at The Carter House and Rippavilla Plantation in Maury County, expressed his excitement about this new venture. He sees it as a unique combination of a battlefield journey and an in-depth exploration of a grand old homeplace, providing an opportunity for compelling conversation about an immigrant family living the American dream, only to be thrust into the chaos of the five bloodiest hours in American history.
Chuck will weave together the stories of young Northern and Southern soldiers, including Tod Carter, who lived across the street from the Lotz House. This tour will delve into the rich history of the home, exploring its antiques, ghostly legends and the profound impact the battle had on Matilda Lotz, who had just turned six the day before the fighting began.
“Sundays with Chuck” will be offered every Sunday beginning August 18 from 3:00 - 6:00 p.m. Reservations are required and the cost is $100 per person.
